There are so many ways to become
involved in the Reclaiming our Heritage movement.
Visit your attic
Explore
The likelihood that your mother or grandfather saved a scrap
of The Tampa Daily Times is high. Tromp into your attic
this weekend with a youngster in tow—make it an adventure! Sort
through scrapbooks, photo albums, old family files—even check
the pages of the family Bible. If you do, you'll dramatically
raise the chances of finding a poignant, albeit forgotten, bit
of Tampa history. You just may be surprised at what you'll
discover, and where.
Talk to relatives
Connect
When your kinfolk
passed away, their papers and keepsakes were likely
claimed by various family members. Your
second-cousin-once-removed in Texas may have inherited journals
and scrapbooks—treasures that represent precious clues to your
family's heritage and keys to Tampa's storied past. Give Cousin
Sarah Honaker's descendants a call. Besides renewing family
ties, you may find a long-forgotten copy of The Tampa Daily
Times tucked in a hatbox.
Recruit a sponsor
Involve
Consider which Tampa organizations and companies you know that
could benefit from joining the Reclaiming our Heritage effort.
Like old and respected families, Tampa's corporate citizens have
stories to tell. Moreover, they may enjoy finding links to
a soon-to-be discovered historic vignette, dormant in a
forgotten article. Your efforts might compel leaders of a Tampa
institution to donate time, resources, or creativity that could
jump-start the recovery of the paper's lost years.
Donate your time
Volunteer
There's no more precious resource you can offer than your time.
Whether spent answering phones, chairing a fund-raiser, or
visiting with homebound senior citizens who want to share
memories of old Tampa or The Tampa Daily Times—the time
you invest could make a difference in so many lives! Reclaiming
our Heritage is an all-volunteer effort, made up of wonderful
personalities and stories, just like yours. Join in on the fun.
