HipStory Learning Adventures for Kids is a hip and engaging take on Florida history and learning that emphasizes hands-on, family-friendly storytelling. The five-week HipStory curriculum (hip stories of our past) brings alive our region’s boomtown tales (circa 1875-1925: The Bay’s 50 Boomtown Years) through fun, intriguing, and engaging stories. Adults and children explore yesteryear through a series of readings, living history performances, field trips, photo scavenger hunts, and the study of role models and mentors from our past. Through partnerships with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Hillsborough Library System, and area heritage-loving groups, HipStory engages kids at that cool level that makes visiting libraries and museums appealing by framing adventures with a series of engaging, out-and-about, competitive activities. And naturally, “reclaimed” stories of The Tampa Daily Times and other vintage newspapers are woven throughout--ideally inspiring an interest in joining the search to reclaim more!
